Part One - Introduction
SOLD
 |
Yep, you guessed it! - yet another
project, basket case, pile of rust, shit heap - however you see it ! ..Oh
boring, please.. not another one of Greg's projects, Well I wouldn't have to
write so much about my own restorations if you dear reader got off your
hinney and sent in some details about yours now would I?
Nope, Im finally verging away form my obsessive stock
restoration behaviour and as this is not a matching numbers bike, Im going
to go for it!. With it's '40 cases you could call it a '40 Chief since
its normal to read the engine number rather than the frame number. |
 |
But since it has no forks, well correct ones, and its a
lot of trouble to fit a springer front end (even if i had one!) because of
the differences in steering head lengths etc, I'm going with the 46, besides
the tanks are 46 and fairly distinctive by the tank badges.
I have most of a spare telescopic fork (both triple trees
and lower legs) from the blackhawks and as this befits my hot-rodder image
along with 80" factory primary complete with compensating sprocket , clutch
brake, 80" flywheels, jugs and heads its all looking good for my '46 custom
Stroker chief. |
 |
I don't know when I will be starting this one, what with
the 28 101, 35 and 48 Chief's to tackle yet. And that's not
counting maintenance and upkeep on several other runners or even the other
741 or 101 that are not featured yet. Still I'm not quite forty yet so hope
to finish them all god willing! |
I have a mental picture of what I want to do and what
it will look like, no crash or side bars, dual exhaust, possible dual
carb, everything mega chromed out, maybe even chromed frame, highly polished
cases, fancy airbrushed and/or rainbow paintwork, gold leaf pin striping, you
know all that over the top stuff, and why not I have plenty of stock Indians
already. I derived some inspiration from these two in the Dave Shultz collection
of beauties, mixed them together, choose my favorite colors and
voila...that's my Chief!

Watch for more articles on this project if and when it
progresses....
