I visited Burt Munro in Invercargill in
1970. Here are a couple of photo's taken at that time (scanned from
slides) that you may add to your website if you wish, and you think your
viewers would enjoy them. Passing through Invercargill in 1970 I wanted
to visit Burt but was a bit hesitant to do so - he was famous among
motorcyclists in the US and I didn't want to be a bother. But I
found his shed and he was most welcoming and gracious to a wandering
Yank. Had a very pleasant time with Burt and he regaled me with his
tales - to illustrate a story he'd reach over to the shelf and
pick out a part that had failed. It was a real treat to have spent a
bit of time with Burt. The photo of the Indian is the Indian engine of
Bonneville fame but not the Bonneville frame - at that time Burt was
leaving the original Scout frame and shell in the states, shipping only
the engine back to New Zealand to work on. He kept this frame in New
Zealand for testing the engine. The other photo is Burt "at home"
drinking tea next to the (myford) lathe used to make parts for the
Indian and his Velocette.
